5501	Majken E. Madson, age 74, of Radisson, died Saturday, April 21, at the Hayward Nursing Home. Majken was born September 10, 1915, in Providence, RI. She lived in Holland, MI, and Sweden and was married to Owen Madson, Sr., on May 15, 1944. They lived in St. Louis, MO, until 1960 when they moved to Waukesha. Later they moved to Waterford, WI, and then to Genesee, WI. They came to Radisson in 1978. Majken was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Radisson and the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons, Owen (Susan) of Saukville, WI, and Glenn (LouAnn) of Shorewood, WI; five grandchildren; one brother, Arnold (Mildred) Ekeblad of Oregon. 5503	MAJOR OLAF G SIMONSTAD AVGAATT VED DØDEN En velkjent nordmann, major Olaf G Simonstad, 577 77 Str. Brooklyn, avgikk ved døden efter et kort sykeleie lørdag 12. september i en alder af 65 aar. Major Simonstad, som var født på gaarden Simonstad ved Arendal, kom som ganske ung til Amerika. Straks efter at han hadde landet, lot han seg verve i U.S. Army. En kort tid efter sluttet han i hæren og blev optatt i politidepartementet, hvor han var i 40 aar. Han steg i gradene til løitnant da han retirerte i 1919. Under verdenskrigen fikk han permisjon fra politietaten for aa tjenstgjøre i armeen. Ved krigens slutt var han kaptein. Avdøde var medlem av Chancellor Walworth Lodge, 271 F & M av American Legion, New York Police Veterans Association, Norwegian Engineer Society of New York, La Societé de 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux, Voiture Local 17, og av 9 A.D. Republican Club. Begravelsen fant sted under stor deltagelse onsdag fra Waldecks begravelseskapell til Valhalla Cemetery, Staten Island. 5506	Margot A. Panuska, 79, of Buckley Landing, N. Syracuse, passed away on Friday. Born to her late parents, Aagot (Tonnesen) and William Burkle on February 8, 1936 in Brooklyn N. Y. Margot had lived in Belaire, MD, where enjoyed church, visiting friends, and her pets. While living at Buckley Landing, Margot enjoyed all the activities that were offered. She especially enjoyed going out to restaurants, attending the State Fair, Lights on the Lake and all the holiday and birthday celebrations. Margot also looked forward to dinning out with her family and going to Brennan's Beach during the Summer. Predeceased by her husband Frank Panuska, Jr; a sister Edith Arthur; a brother in law Henri Floch. Surviving are her sister Doris Floch of Phoenix; her cousin Leonard of Staten Island; her nieces and nephews, Dean, JoAnn, Jay, Margot (Greg), Barbara (Bonnie), Nancy (Sheila); many grand nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our gratitude for all the love and care Buckley Landing personnel provided Margot. Everyone at Buckley was supportive and helpful in everyway. 5510	Mary Alice Jacobsen 1926 - May 1, 2013 Mary was born in 1926. She grew up on a small farm in Tvedestrand, Norway, a rural town located north of Arendal and south of Oslo in a fjord on the majestic east coast. Norway was occupied by Germany when she was young, so she had many tales of surviving the war and hiding the food on their farm from the Nazis. When she was 19 she immigrated to the United States with her sister Anne and mother Irene to join her father, Andrew Tellefsen, who was a carpenter in Brooklyn, N.Y. At a dance in the Norwegian Engineer's Hall she met her future husband Adolf, a naval officer. They were married in the Norwegian Seaman's Church on May 23, 1948 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mary was active in numerous navy wives clubs at duty stations in: Newport, R.I.; New York City; Washington, D.C.; Norfolk, Va.; Key West, Fla.; Omaha, Ne.; Long Beach, Calif.; and San Diego, Calif. She helped the clubs raise money for the Navy Relief Fund. She was also a caring homemaker for her husband and two children, Irene Lynn and Beverly Ann. When Adolf was away on long Shipboard tours, she managed the household, raised her children, and learned how to drive at the age of 22. Later, Mary helped raise her grandchildren, taking them to and from school and watching them in the afternoons. When her father became ill, she travelled across the country to take care for him for five months until he passed away. Upon retiring from the naval service, the family settled down in Bonita, Calif. Mary became active in the Norwegian American community in San Diego, including the Sons of Norway Valhall Lodge and the House of Norway in Balboa Park. There she would share her love of Norway by preparing and serving Norwegian food and desserts at events, often in her bunad, a traditional Norwegian folk costume. The Norwegian flag flown every 17th of May in Balboa Park was purchased by Mary in Norway. She had to search for the largest flag they made because the flag pole in the park is so tall. During their retirement Mary and her husband returned every summer to her family farm in Norway, named Feltstykket. They had originally planned to travel the world, but after visiting in 1974 and recognizing its beauty, they decided instead to spend their summers hard at work transforming it into an enchanting vacation home for their family. They spent every summer for the next 38 years there, sightseeing and visiting her husband's relatives in Bodø and Skudeneshavn, travelling by car, train, ship and air. Every summer she would have a reunion for her family at Feltstykket. At first she made all of the cakes, waffles and sandwiches for her family by hand, but as the reunions grew and grew, she had the local hotel cater the event. At its largest she had 68 guests and 16 cars attending, and everyone stayed until the mosquitos drove them home. Feltstykket was also a starting point for many of her travelling friends from the Norwegian American community in San Diego, where she introduced them to Norwegian culture and food with her hospitality. She also brought her eldest grandson Richard with her every summer and passed on her love for Feltstykket onto him. Mary was fluent in both Norwegian and English allowing her to make all of her guests feel welcome and comfortable. Before immigrating to the U.S., Mary worked in a beauty salon. She loved to have her hair done weekly and went to the same hairdresser in Chula Vista for 30 years. When she was in Norway, she went to the same salon she had worked at many years before. Her other hobbies included knitting, crocheting and embroidery. At least 20 of her family members have afghans made by her and knitted Norwegian sweaters for her children, grandchildren and others. She embroidered many tablecloths which were used for family holiday dinners. She was also an avid reader, and when she lost her eyesight to temporal arteritis and macular degeneration, she would listen to histories and biographies on audiobooks every day. She also loved the Sunday church service on television called "Hour of Power." In the fall of 2011, during a medical examination, Mary was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Although she had chemotherapy, a hysterectomy, and hormone treatment, the cancer endured and she away peacefully at home on May 1, 2013. She was cremated and her ashes reside at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, Calif., overlooking the San Diego Bay. Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years Captain Adolf Jacobsen, her daughters Irene and Beverly, her grandchildren, Richard, Justin, and Alexandra, and her greatgrandchildren, Berg and Kaja. She was strong, independent and hardworking, graceful, classy and beautiful; a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Han var eit par turar på hamnearbeid i Nord-Noreg, og rodde mange år vinterfiske. Men ellers var det garden og jorda han interreserte seg for. Han dyrka upp farsgarden og dreiv med stor umtanke og klokskap - eigenskaper som ellers var karakteristiske for han i all hans ferd. Dessuten bygde han nytt godt stovehus. 5517	Melba Ann Jensen, 77, of Cariere, MS, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 12, 2018, in New Orleans, LA. Melba was born August 17, 1940, in Pascagoula, MS to the late Walter and Audrey Jones. She was a longtime member of Kreole United Methodist Church, her 'HOME' church. She loved teaching people about the Lord and was active in prison ministries for many years. She loved her family, friends, and her animals. They were all very special to her. She was a long time educator. Melba is going to be best remembered for her unselfishness towards others and always putting them before herself. In addition to her parents, Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Jensen, and daughter, Loreen Jensen Bays. She is survived by her children, Scott Jensen and Suzanne Jensen; grandchildren, Nikolas, William, and Kristen Jensen; brothers, W.L. (Nancy) Jones and Mike (Jennie) Jones; along with numerous other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. with Bro. 5529	Michael Emery Knight, 83, of Basking Ridge, NJ, formerly of Cranford, Roselle, and Roselle Park, NJ, passed away Sunday, August 25 after a long illness. Michael was born on September 29, 1935 and originally resided in Roselle Park. He was a graduate of Abraham Clark High School, and was employed by Sailer and Sailer Civil Engineers and Surveyors before joining the Army, where he served in Germany as a Military Police officer. After his discharge, he served as a Sergeant in the National Guard. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and then a Masters from Newark State College, now Kean University. He then went on to earn a PhD from the School of Education at Fordham University. He taught at Bergen Street School in Newark before accepting a teaching position at Kean University in the Department of Early Childhood Education, where he taught for over 46 years. Michael tremendously enjoyed his teaching career, travel, and gardening. Most of all, he loved lending a helping hand to his children as their families grew. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jean Paula Knight nee Giesler, and their four children: Michael of Basking Ridge, Kevin of Cranford/Green Brook and his wife Barbara, Christopher of Ocean Township and his wife Lynn, and Lee Bukofsky of Hopewell Junction, NY and her husband Scott. Michael will be missed by his 12 beloved grandchildren: James, Thomas, Katie, Eric, Christian, Jack, Patrick, Tyler, Nicholas, Ryan, Evan, and Jason. He is also survived by his brother, Charles, of Gainesville, Georgia, his aunt Lillian Meade (nee Klein) of Cranford, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Emma and Charles Knight of Roselle. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 PM on Friday, August 30 at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ. A private funeral service will be held. 5531	Mikkel "Mik" L. Anderson, of Baraboo passed away at the age of 70 years 7 months and 30 days on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the Hospice House, after a very long illness, with his family by his side. Mik was born on Aug. 1, 1944, to Ike and Anna (Tangen) Anderson in Eau Claire, where he grew up. He was united in marriage to Sheila Swanson on Feb. 6, 1989 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Mik was a loving husband; a very gentle man, loving all of nature. He enjoyed planting beautiful trees and flowers, always saving the seeds for the next year; his wife would call him "seed man". Mik enjoyed watching NASCAR, boating, and especially canoeing. He was an avid reader, who read many books, but his favorite author was Louis La'Moire. Mik owned and operated the Alpine Cafe in Baraboo for 20 years. After selling the restaurant he moved on to work for May and Todd Weiss at the Log Cabin; there he worked as a line and cook and a baker; eventually retiring in 2012. 5532	Milton (Milt) Washelesky, 75, Kewaskum, Wis., died peacefully on April 26 after a long battle with cancer. Milt was born Oct. 14, 1948, in Fort Atkinson, Wis., the son of Milton and Ruth Washelesky. He grew up in Cambridge, Wis., graduating from Cambridge High School in 1966. He graduated from the Wisconsin School of Electronics in Madison, Wis., before embarking on a long career working for Wisconsin Bell and other telecommunications companies. In high school, he met the love of his life, Sharon Washelesky (nee Allen), and they married in 1970 in Deerfield, Wis., eventually settling in West Bend, Wis. Milt was the loving father of two children, Tanya (Mike) Krueger, West Bend, Wis., and Jason (Dawn), Sterling, Va. He was the proud grandfather of Eli, Jack, Luke, Ben, Ahren, Emma, Ada and Henry. He is survived by sisters Jacqueline Currie (Hot Springs, Ark.) and Veronica Holman (Dodgeville, Wis.), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Milt will always be remembered for his warm heart and his generosity. He was always available and willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbors. There was no project he couldn't handle. Perhaps his greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren, rarely missing an event no matter how small. Spending time with family and friends at the family cabin on Ada Lake near Wabeno, Wis., provided cherished memories for all. Time at Ada Lake provided Milt with time to relax and unwind as he tinkered and fished. Milt's family would like to thank Dr. John Burfeind and the staff at Froedtert Cancer center in West Bend, Wis., for their care and support. 5533	Minneord – Reidar Storsteinhaug Et flott menneske og en dyktig kunstner forlot oss kristi-himmelfartsdag i år. Jeg har vært så heldig og ha blitt kjent med han, og vi hadde jevnlig kontakt de siste tretti årene. Reidar Storsteinhaug ble født i Oslo 12. februar1929, men vokste opp hos sine besteforeldre i Storsteinhaugen i Plurdalen i Rana. Han var omgitt av og var glad i naturen. Ved hytta ved Kallvatnet likte han seg særlig godt. Han gikk ikke bare i skog og fjell, men hadde en særlig evne til å se særpreget og skjønnheten i naturen. Han begynte tidlig å lage skisser og gjengi på papiret det han oppfattet. Selv om tegning og maling var hans største interesse, var kunsten et usikkert levebrød. Han arbeidet derfor i industrien i mange år. Der gikk han gradene fra læregutt, til hjelpearbeider og endte til sist i 1965, som planleggingssjef hos Thune mekaniske verksted. Samtidig som han jobbet seg fram i industrien, tok han også kurs i tegning og maling og dyrket sin lidenskap. I 1986 sluttet han som industriarbeider og levde av sitt talent. Han opplevde også en del sorg i livet. Etter 32 års ekteskap med Else, ble han enkemann i 1986, og i 2014 mistet han sin gode venninne, Herta. Mange av hans slektninger og barndomsvenner hadde han i Rana, men etter hvert gikk flere og flere bort. Etter sommerturen sin i 2015, sa han at nå var ikke Rana den samme og at det var trist. En av de siste gangene han besøkte heimplassen, falt han stygt og ble ikke helt bra etter dette. Selv om noe var alvorlig, hadde han alltid evnen til å se det humoristiske i alt. Etter fallet fra uthusloftet, gikk han lenge med krykker og stav, og med to svære kuler i hodet. Kulene var Glittertinden og Gaustatoppen, sa han og lo. Han har også laget ei skisse av seg selv i baklengs salto, i svevet fra ned fra loftet. Han mente at en kunstner med respekt for seg selv, måtte ha et selvportrett. Slik kunne han ufarliggjøre og skape humor av noe som var alvorlig og tragisk. Ellers var han var også meget ungdommelig til sinns og hadde evne til å tilegne seg og bruke ny teknologi. Smarttelefonen og alt innen data brukte han aktivt og kunne han alt om. Som billedkunstner hadde han evnen til å male symbolikken i samfunnspolitiske saker, og fikk ellers fram personlighetene til enkelte gjennom dyr eller fugler. For eksempel malte han deltakerne i et styremøte som fugler, der særtrekket til den enkelte kommer fram ved hver fugl. Av enkelte ble han også omtalt som en satirisk maler, men det vi forbinder han mest med er malerier av natur og gamle gårder. Han spesialiserte seg i å male gamle bygninger. Reidar var også meget god til å få fram personlikheten hos mennesker. Han har også malt mange kjente personer, og flere omstreifere/slarker har han også festet til lerretet. Oppdragene ble etter hvert mange. Hver sommer da han kom nordover, var bilen full-lastet med malerier. Hans gode evne til å skape personlikheten, gjorde at han ble utvist av ein kunstskole. De hadde en spesiell lærer, og han hadde fått fram særtrekket av henne i ei tegning. Læreren hadde kommet over den, og da likheten ikke var å ta feil av, ble hun fornærmet og utviste han. Han burde heller fått ros for sitt talent. På heimplassen, i Storsteinhaugen, finner en Reidars malerier. Det er et kunstgalleri, der noen av hans malerier befinner seg. Reidar var omgjengelig, snill og godt likt av alle. Savnet og tomrommet etter han vil merkes, men hans malerier er til glede for mange og pryder mange hjem. I den reviderte utgaven av Ranas gårdshistorie, vil også flere av de gamle gårdene som han har , illustrere historiene. Selv om han bodde i Bærum store deler av sitt voksne liv, opphørte aldri hans tilknytning til Rana, der han bodde i sine barndomsår. Fred over hans minne! Anna-Marie Urland. 5541	Morgan Moen, 81, of Bagley, died on Wednesday, July 17, 1991, at Greensview Health Care Center in Bagley. Morgan was born January 20, 1910, in Eden Township, Polk County, to Anton and Johanna Moen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended the Lincoln School, rural Gully. Morgan was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Gonvick, and served as cemetery sexton for many years. He was married to Helen Sunsdahl on September 5, 1936, at Gonvick. They made their home on a farm south of Gully until moving to Biwabik in 1952. Morgan was employed by St. James Mining Co. and later worked as a painter. In 1973 he retired and moved to Bagley. Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sisters, Mrs. Vern Olson of Moorhead and Olive Dunrud of Fosston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. His funeral was held Friday, July 19 at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick with the Rev. Eric Midthun officiating. Burial was in the Bagley City Cemetery with the Cease Funeral Home of Bagley in charge of the arrangements.	Moen, Morgan (I44054)

5544	MRS. WILLIAM S. MARRINER. GRAY – Mrs. Anne D. Marriner, 64, wife of William S. of Hunt's Hill Road, died Saturday at a Portland hospital after a long illness. She was born in Rockland Jan. 30, 1910, daughter of William O. and Doris Sundby Dean. She was a graduate of Rockland High School. Mrs. Marriner was employed by the Navy in Portland during World War II. She has been an agent for Yankee Acreage Inc. She had resided in South Portland for many years prior to moving here a year ago. Survivors besides her husband include a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Teddi) Silva of Falmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Britto and Mrs. Lillian Marston, both of Rockland; a brother, William Dean of Rockland; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. 5545	Murphys, CA…Arnold Gustave Everson , born in Brooklyn New York on May 21, 1918 has gone to join his wife of seventy-five years, Edna May Greene Everson and his daughter, Corinne Jane Azinger, in their Heavenly home. Arnold, age 99, died peacefully on August 30,2017, with his daughter, Elizabeth Armstrong at his side. A Chief Pharmacist Mate in World War II, Arnold served aboard the Frigate, USS Glendale, in the South Pacific . His ship participated in the battle of Coral Sea and Leyte Gulf. He regaled family, friends and all who would listen for the rest of his life with tales of that challenging time. After his honorable discharge in 1945, Arnold returned to New York and then Busks County Pennsylvania where he worked in the medical and pharmaceutical business for over forty years. In his spare time, Arnold gardened and enjoyed family horseback rides trough the woods and fields around the countryside, near their Colonial home, located on acreage that was an original grant from William Penn. After "retiring", and for the next 25 years, Arnold and his wife Edna owned and operated a large gift shop– "Christmas Joy of Cape Cod", in South Chatham, MA. In 2003, they moved to Murphys, CA to live near their daughter, Rev. Elizabeth Armstrong. Arnold is survived by his daughter, six grand children and nine great grand children. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Saturday, September 23, at 3:00 pm at Union Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 1141 S. Main St. Angels Camp, CA. 5546	Myrtle E. Selmanson, 92, of East Grand Forks, MN, left this life on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND. Myrtle Evelyn Mellum was born on February 29, 1916 in Beaver Creek Township in Steele County, North Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Maria (Olson) Mellum. Myrtle grew up in Golden Lake Township and the Sharon-Aneta area until moving to Grand Forks at 18 years of age. Myrtle worked as a domestic from 1933 to 1940 in Grand Forks, ND area. On September 22, 1940, Myrtle was united in marriage to Thorvald Selmanson in East Grand Forks, MN. From 1955 to 1984, she worked at King of Spuds in East Grand Forks, MN. Myrtle is preceded in death by Thorvald Selmanson, her husband of 51 years; her parents; 3 sisters: Amelia Sampson, Clara Jacobson, Cecelia Murray; 5 brothers: Clarence, Henry, Alvin, Ernest and Gehard Mellum. 5547	Myrtle Sunsdahl, 77, Thief River Falls, formerly of Goodridge, died Monday, June 20, 2016, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Services were held Saturday, June 25, at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge with Pastor Phillip Johnson officiating. Myrtle Ione Johnson was born June 28, 1938, in Espelie Township to Albert and Gladys (Tenold) Johnson. She attended Espelie Country School until fifth grade. She then attended Goodridge School. Myrtle married Orvin Sunsdahl September 24, 1955, at the parsonage at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Pastor Walter Peterson officiating. They purchased his parents' farm in 1964 where they farmed for many years. After selling the farm in 2010, they made their home at Greenleaf Senior Living in Thief River Falls. Orvin died April 23, 2012. Myrtle then resided at the Thief River Care Center. Myrtle was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, serving as the Sunday School superintendent for several years, teaching Sunday School, Ladies Aid, making mission quilts and was active in the Lions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvin; infant daughter; grandchildren, Bridget Blaine and baby girl Blaine; parents; brother, Glenn Johnson; brother-in-law, Dick Sanders; and nephew, Chad Johnson.
