Virginia R. Gustavsen, 95, of Farmingdale, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She was born in Perth Amboy, where she had resided for 44 years before moving to Morganville, and eventually settling in Farmingdale 33 years ago. She was employed as a bookkeeper for most of her adult life, having worked for numerous employers including NJ State Unemployment Office in Red Bank, from which she retired in 1981. She continued to work both full time and part time until she was 85 years old. She was a charter member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, and was also a member of the Sons of Norway. Virginia was a dedicated member of the Violet Rebekah Lodge of Perth Amboy, where she held numerous positions of leadership, including president and secretary.
She is predeceased by her husband, John A. Gustavsen; her daughter, Elaine Cabral, and her son, Louis. She is survived by her 3 sons, John Gustavsen and his wife Dianne of Freehold, Eric and his wife, Simone of Lanoka Harbor, and Wayne and his wife, Jeanette of Florida. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords. Interment will follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers, because of Virginia's lifelong love of animals, especially cats, contributions may be made in her memory to the ASPCA.
