- Inga M. Sunsdahl, 88, of Biwabik and formerly of Tower-Soudan and Aurora, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia.
She passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side.
She was born Sept. 12, 1923, on the family farm in Reiner Township, Pennington County, the daughter of Halvor and Gyro (Homme) Holen. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Goodridge, Minn.
Inga was united in marriage to Ole Sunsdahl on Nov. 14, 1939, in Gully, Minn. They farmed in Goodridge until moving to the Iron Range in 1954 and settling in Soudan, where they raised their family. In 1970 she graduated from the Eveleth VoTech. She worked as a cook at the Tower Hotel and then worked as a clerk at the Tower State Bank until retiring.
She enjoyed spending the summers at the family cabin on Lake Vermilion, fishing, sewing, crocheting (she kept everyone in pot scrubbers), knitting, reading (especially history), taking community education courses and travelling. She and Ole travelled throughout the southwestern United States and across Europe. In their later years, they wintered in New Mexico and Arizona. In 2005 Inga moved to Aurora for a number of years and then to Biwabik until present.
Inga was a loving mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Aurora; a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Tower and St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Soudan. She was very active in her churches, teaching religious instruction and women's Bible study. She was also a member of the Soudan Study Club and Senior Citizen Group at Eagle's Nest. She also did volunteer work at the nursing home in Aurora and participated in the Tuesday bandage rolling group.
She is survived by her daughters: Carol LeBon, and Wanda (Jim) Fisher; grandchildren: Michael (Tammy) Sunsdahl, Rachael (Chad) Nordlinder, Patrick (Jennifer) Fisher and Amanda (Joshua) Wilson; six great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren: Christine (Douglas) LeBon Graple, Patty (Guntram) LeBon Herb and Charles LeBon; two stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers: Selmer (Helen) Holen, and Andrew (Norma) Holen; sister-in-law, Colleen Holen; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ole Sunsdahl in 2000; son, Harley Sunsdahl; daughter, Julie Nelson; daughter-in-law, Ursula Sunsdahl; son-in-law, Luc LeBon; and brothers, Harold and Mayer Holen.
Burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Tower.
