- Laura Sunsdahl died September 28, 2018 in Bismarck from heart and kidney problems. She was born May 24, 1951 to Grover "Bud" and Sarah "Jane" (Skovgaard) Potts in LaMoure, ND. She graduated from LaMoure High School in 1969, then attended Jamestown College. She married Robert Stehr in 1970. They lived in Edgeley and Jamestown when their two boys were young. She continued her education at UND where she earned her master's degree. She then began her career as a Nurse Practitioner which she loved. During her career, she worked in Alabama, Iowa, Dickinson, New England, ND, and Bismarck in clinics for the homeless, veteran's hospitals, prisons, occupational health clinics, and several reservation clinics in South Dakota and North Dakota. She spent almost two years working in Saudi Arabia at King Faisal's Hospital.
While attending UND, Laurie met and married Jack Sunsdahl. They later divorced. She eventually moved to Bismarck to be close to her mother who was in a Bismarck nursing home. Laurie was an animal lover who enjoyed all animals from those on the farm to her cats and dogs.
Laurie is survived by her son, Joe Stehr; sisters: Sally Lofthus, Patricia Burgum, Mary Charrier, Fran Trapp (Harvey); brothers, Robert Potts, Martin Potts (Julie), Richard Potts (Julie); and many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew L. Stehr, who died on June 27, 2018, her parents, her sisters Virginia Evans and Nancy Cote, and her brother Bill Potts.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in LaMoure in the Summer of 2019.
